'A Village Story'

'A Village Story' - Aldermaston

          Within this book :-

As the title suggests this book is concerned  with some of the history of Aldermaston village, its mill and the Arlott family.  It is an attempt to blend the more recent experiences of members of the Arlott family with some of the recorded history of Aldermaston over the past 200 years.  Much of the more recent material is a record of the memories of Ben Arlott and his more immediate family since his birth in Church Lodge on 25th June 1911, three days after the Coronation of King George V.

The book holds descriptions of life in 19th Century Aldermaston, life on the estate during the time of squire Charles Keyser, the ownership of the mill by the Arlott family, Ben's experiences in the services during the Second World War,  and the war-time establishment of the highly regarded Aldermaston and Wasing annual horticultural show.

It contains 136 pages plus 56 photographs and illustrations - The Arlott family published this book but it is no longer available. If you would like to see a copy, please contact John Trigg or The Old Mill at Aldermaston at:-   theoldmillaldermaston@newburyweb.net
